20+ Popular Stores Whose Best Coupon Code of the Year Came on Black Friday 2020

Last year was a strange Black Friday/Cyber Monday. (Last year was a strange everything, not just BFCM, but it was a strange BFCM too.) Many stores, large and small, started their holiday sales events early in November, trying to make the best of an unusual retail year and a late Thanksgiving leading to a short Christmas shopping season. 

But in spite of all those early sales, when Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend arrived, lots of stores still put their best foot forward and offered a coupon code which outdid any offering in the 11 months prior.

Even with holiday sales creeping earlier and earlier, BFCM still remains the time when many stores will offer their best deal of the year — a one-time offer you won’t receive during any other stretch of the calendar. And as a coupon-savvy customer, that’s when you want to make your big purchase from the store.

And we decided to review our database of several million coupon codes from 2020 to figure out what stores offered their best coupon code of the entire year for the Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping weekend.

Rent the Runway sells memberships which allow you to rent designer clothes; they also sell those clothes at discounted prices. The 50% off storewide is the best coupon code Rent the Runway offers — and they’ve done it on a few BFCM weekends prior, so it just might come around again this year.

Little Caesars

Best coupon code the rest of the year: $7 off all items

It’s not just retail stores that get in on BFCM discounts — restaurants get in on the action too. Little Caesars, America’s third-largest pizza chain but now number one in our couponing hearts, gave nearly one-third off all orders on Black Friday last year with the thematic coupon code DOORBUSTER2020.

Best coupon code the rest of the year: 40% off storewide

It’s rare to see “mall chains” offering storewide discounts of this magnitude. Eddie Bauer offered up a coupon code for 50% off everything they sell as a Black Friday early bird deal last year. They haven’t offered many storewide deals in 2021, so this could be another brand to keep an eye on for a big BFCM 2021 push.

The RealReal

The RealReal is a massively popular online marketplace to buy and sell luxury clothing items and accessories. Last year’s BFCM code for $150 off provided major savings for customers; there haven’t been any coupons close to that level yet this year.

Warby Parker

BFCM 2020 coupon code: $100 off storewide

Best coupon code the rest of the year: 15% off

Warby Parker offered a significant discount on their eyeglass frames for BFCM last year. They haven’t run many new coupon codes this year, so if they repeat their BFCM coupon pattern, this could be a rare chance to snag a big discount.

Havaianas

Havaianas sells some of the most popular flip flops in the world. Most of them aren’t that expensive (roughly the $15 to $40 range) — but that 40% off coupon last BFCM took a nice chunk out of those prices all the same. Herschel Supply Co. sells very popular bags and wallets and doesn’t do a ton of big discounts, so last Black Friday’s deal was a surprise. At $50 off a $160 order, the coupon gave shoppers up to 31% off — higher than any discount they’ve ever offered. (Dating back to where we started cataloging their codes in 2015.)

Cheryl’s Cookies, which is part of the 1-800-Flowers family, can send you a one-time dose of cookies or subscription cookies. They offer coupon codes regularly throughout the year but historically save their biggest offer for BFCM.

Earth Mama Organics

BFCM 2020 coupon code: 30% off storewide

Best coupon code the rest of the year: 25% off storewide

Earth Mama Organics sells organic products ranging from herbal tea to eczema cream. (Don’t mix those two together, as it won’t taste good or help with your itching.) They offered a rare 30% off storewide coupon code on BFCM last year; the highest they’ve gone since is 20% off storewide.

Cole Haan

BFCM 2020 coupon code: 50% off storewide (minimum order $200)

Best coupon code the rest of the year: 30% off storewide

Cole Haan gave half off on $200+ orders last BFCM, meaning at least $100 off; that’s a really solid discount. For smaller orders, they also offered 30% off storewide; they’d offered that discount a few other times throughout the year, but it was a good call for them to bring it back for Black Friday.

NARS is becoming a major online cosmetics shop and on Black Friday last year, they offered up their best coupon to date. Normally, NARS’s coupons are more in the “free gift with purchase” zone, so a storewide discount — especially such a big one — was an unexpected surprise.

Vivienne Westwood, which sells clothes and accessories far too fashion forward for me to ever understand, didn’t just offer its best coupon of the year on BFCM 2020 — it offered its only coupon of the year. The 30% off was an extraordinarily rare discount and if they offer it again, it could really bring down the price of the store’s high-end items.
