But after tracking code availability across dozens of hotel brands month by month, a small group stood out — brands that don't just have codes listed, but have storewide codes available nearly every month for years running.

A storewide code is one that applies to any booking on the site. No loyalty membership required, no blackout dates, no restriction to a specific property. It works the way most people expect a promo code to work.

Here are the three hotel brands that meet that bar:

Great Wolf Lodge has the strongest promo code presence of any hotel brand we track. With discounts averaging around 46% off and codes available every single month for nearly four years, it's the closest thing to a sure bet in the hotel space. Codes apply across all resort locations with no membership requirements.

Barceló Hotel Group holds the longest unbroken streak in our dataset at 45 consecutive months with active codes. Discounts are more modest — typically around 21% off — but they're storewide and apply across Barceló's global portfolio of properties.

Hotel Edison in New York City is the most focused option. It carries fewer codes (~3 per month) but has maintained availability for over three years straight. Discounts typically land around 24% off, and the codes are straightforward — no fine print.

Hotel chains that have promo codes — but with restrictions

Several major hotel chains do offer promo codes, so you'll see them listed on coupon sites. But unlike the three brands above, these codes almost always come with conditions that limit who can actually use them. If you don't meet the requirements, the code will fail at checkout with no explanation.

Hyatt

Hyatt regularly lists promo codes, but they're typically gated behind World of Hyatt membership. If you're not already enrolled in their loyalty program, the code won't apply. Some codes are also restricted to specific rate types or properties. If you're a Hyatt member, it's worth checking — but for the average traveler booking a one-off stay, these codes aren't accessible.

Marriott Bonvoy

Marriott has one of the larger code inventories among hotel chains, but the fine print is dense. Codes are frequently location-specific — valid at a single property or within a region — and many require Bonvoy membership to redeem. You may also encounter codes tied to specific booking windows or minimum-night stays. Based on over 1,000 user-submitted ratings on hotel codes tracked by SimplyCodes over the past 90 days, only about 4% were reported as working at checkout. Across all other retail categories, that number is roughly 12% — meaning hotel codes are nearly three times less likely to work than a typical online coupon.

The inventory gap is just as wide. The average hotel brand has just 1.3 verified working codes at any given time — a fraction of what you'll find in nearly every other shopping category. Even within the travel industry, luggage companies carry more than 13x the verified codes that hotels do.

There are a few structural reasons the hotel industry is so resistant to open discount codes:

• Dynamic pricing works against flat discounts. Hotels use revenue management systems that adjust room rates in real time based on demand, season, and occupancy. A blanket "20% off" code undercuts that entire model, which is why most chains avoid offering them.
• Loyalty programs replace public codes. Instead of storewide coupons, major chains like Hyatt, Marriott, and Best Western funnel their discounts through membership programs. This keeps the discounts controlled and tied to repeat customers rather than open to anyone with a code.
• OTAs aren't any better. Booking platforms like Expedia, Hotels.com, Booking.com, and Priceline list large volumes of codes, but they operate on the same dynamic pricing model. The promo codes circulating for these sites are overwhelmingly expired or auto-generated — and users report almost none of them working.

The brands that do consistently offer real codes — Great Wolf Lodge, Barceló, and Hotel Edison — tend to be experience-driven or competing for direct bookings against the OTAs. For them, a storewide promo code is a customer acquisition tool. For the major chains, it's a revenue leak.

This analysis was conducted by the SimplyCodes data team using internal coupon inventory and user feedback data.

Code inventory tracking: We analyzed monthly coupon availability for hotel brands from January 2023 through April 2026 using SimplyCodes' merchant coupon database. "Consecutive months with codes" reflects the number of unbroken months where a brand had at least one active, healthy promo code in our system. Code counts reflect verified inventory after health decay filters — meaning expired or degraded codes are excluded from the count.

Storewide classification: A code is classified as "storewide" when it applies broadly across a merchant's site without restrictions tied to membership programs, specific locations, payment methods, or booking windows.

Discount data: Typical and maximum discount values are based on the highest available percentage-off code recorded each month, averaged across the brand's full history in our dataset. Dollar-off codes were excluded from percentage comparisons.

User feedback data: User satisfaction figures are based on upvote and downvote submissions from SimplyCodes users over a 90-day window. When a user tries a code at checkout, they can report whether it worked (upvote) or didn't (downvote). The hotel industry figure of ~4% is based on over 1,000 individual votes across hotel and lodging brands. The ~12% benchmark for all other categories is based on over 584,000 votes across the same period.
