Where to Find Grocery Coupons: 12 Months of Verified Code Data Across U.S. Grocery Retailers

Grocery promo codes are concentrated among a small group of retailers. Of 46 U.S. grocery retailers tracked between June 2025 and May 2026, 15 carried at least one coupon in 10 or more of the 12 months. Twenty had none in any month, and the remaining 11 offered codes only intermittently.

The retailers with the steadiest coupon availability were online and delivery-first grocers. Instacart, the most-searched grocery service in the set at roughly 68,000 searches a month, listed coupons in all 12 months, as did Misfits Market, GoPuff, Imperfect Foods, and Farm Fresh To You. Among traditional supermarket chains, Safeway, ShopRite, Hmart, and Stop & Shop also maintained codes in every month of the period.

Several of the most-searched grocery names carried no codes at all between June 2025 and May 2026, including Amazon Fresh, Meijer, ALDI, Whole Foods, and Wegmans. For most retailers in this group, discounting is handled through loyalty programs, app-based offers, and weekly circulars rather than codes entered at checkout, so the absence of promo codes does not indicate an absence of discounts.

Grocery stores with consistent coupon availability

Fifteen retailers carried at least one coupon in 10 or more of the 12 months analyzed. The table below ranks them by the number of months with codes available, then by monthly search volume.

The group divides between delivery services and traditional supermarket chains. The five delivery-first grocers in the set: Instacart, GoPuff, Misfits Market, Imperfect Foods, and Farm Fresh To You, each maintained codes in all 12 months. The two highest monthly code counts also belonged to delivery services: Misfits Market averaged six codes a month and Instacart 5.4. Supermarket chains in the group averaged closer to two codes a month, with code counts holding steady rather than spiking in any single month.

Eleven retailers offered coupons in some months but not others, appearing in 1 to 9 of the 12 months. The table is ordered by the number of months with codes, then by monthly search volume.

Search demand and coupon availability diverge most sharply in this group. Thrive Market drew the second-highest search volume of any grocery retailer in the analysis, behind only Instacart, yet listed coupons in just 2 of the 12 months.

Kroger and H-E-B, two of the most-searched supermarket chains in the country, each carried a code in a single month. In the months when retailers in this group did offer coupons, the count was typically one. The pattern places high-demand names such as Thrive Market, Kroger, and H-E-B closer in availability to the no-code group than to the retailers that maintained codes year-round.

Twenty retailers carried no coupon codes in any of the 12 months. The table is ordered by monthly search volume.

The absence here is specific to enterable promo codes and does not mean these retailers offer no discounts. Most distribute savings through channels that do not involve a code typed at checkout: store loyalty programs, digital coupons clipped inside a mobile app or account, and weekly circulars tied to a loyalty number. Kroger-owned banners such as Fred Meyer, Ralphs, and King Soopers route discounts through loyalty accounts and app-based offers, and several chains in this group operate the same way.

ALDI and Costco are longstanding examples of retailers that run without promo codes by design. ALDI's pricing model is built on flat low prices rather than coupon-based discounts, and Costco concentrates savings in member pricing and its periodic manufacturer-coupon books rather than codes entered online. In both cases, the lack of promo codes reflects a deliberate pricing strategy rather than a temporary gap in availability.

How discount structure shapes coupon availability

Coupon availability aligned with how a retailer distributed its discounts rather than with whether it sold online or in physical stores. Three patterns stand out across the data:

• Standalone delivery and online-first grocers were the most consistent source of codes. The five delivery-first grocers in the set — Instacart, Misfits Market, GoPuff, Imperfect Foods, and Farm Fresh To You — each listed codes in all 12 months, and two of them, Misfits Market and Instacart, posted the highest monthly code counts in the analysis.
• The delivery model was bimodal, not uniform. The other delivery services tracked, including Amazon Fresh, Shipt, and Peapod, carried no codes in any month and appeared in no in-between state. Amazon Fresh and Shipt operate inside larger retail platforms, Amazon and Target, and direct customers to those platforms' pricing; Peapod has curtailed its standalone operations.
• Traditional supermarket chains spread across all three groups in roughly even numbers. Some maintained codes year-round (Safeway, ShopRite, Albertsons, Vons), some offered them intermittently (Publix, Kroger, H-E-B), and others carried none (Meijer, Wegmans, Food Lion, Harris Teeter).

The dividing line among supermarket chains was the discount mechanism rather than the format. Chains issuing standalone codes appeared every month at counts near two, while those routing savings through loyalty programs and in-app offers — including the Kroger-owned banners Fred Meyer, Ralphs, and King Soopers — registered no codes at all.

Methodology

The analysis draws on SimplyCodes coupon inventory data, aggregated to one record per retailer per month.

• Window. Twelve complete months, June 2025 through May 2026. The in-progress month was excluded so that every month in the analysis represents a full reporting period.
• What was counted. Coupon codes confirmed to work at checkout. Codes that were expired, unconfirmed, or removed were not included in any month's count. A retailer was recorded as having codes in a given month if at least one confirmed code was available that month.
• Consistency measure. The number of months, out of 12, in which a retailer had at least one code available. Retailers with codes in 10 or more months are described as consistent, 1 to 9 months as intermittent, and zero months as carrying no codes.
• Retailers included. Forty-six U.S. retailers categorized as grocery and supermarket businesses, spanning supermarket chains, online grocers, grocery delivery services, and convenience and warehouse stores. Packaged-food and CPG brands categorized adjacent to grocery, app-only rewards services, and non-U.S. retailers were excluded.
• Search volume. Estimated average monthly U.S. search volume for each retailer's brand, used to order tables and to weight retailers by consumer demand. Figures are estimates and are not a count of coupon searches.
• Limitation. The data measures code-based promotions only. It does not capture discounts delivered through loyalty programs, app-based or account-based digital coupons, or weekly circulars, which several retailers in the analysis use as their primary discount channel.
