Some codes promise a discount on everything in the store; others promise it on a single product line. The scope difference isn't cosmetic — it's the difference between a code with one way to fail and a code with several.
The verification data makes the gap concrete, and the figures below recompute daily. An item-scoped code dies when the code expires or when the qualifying product sells out, rotates, or changes price — so the working-code supply skews overwhelmingly storewide.
Yes — by about 3.1×. As of August 7, 2026, 20.2% of sitewide promo codes verify as working at checkout, versus 6.6% of item- or product-specific codes, across 8,888,199 tracked codes.
- Sitewide codes fail less because they carry fewer ways to fail — no cart-contents test to lose.
- Item-specific codes die twice: when the code expires, and when the qualifying product sells out or rotates.
- Among codes that DO currently work, 87.0% are sitewide — the working-code supply is overwhelmingly storewide.
Share verified working = codes whose current verification status is valid at checkout, within each scope · Scope = whether the code’s own offer terms apply storewide or to specific items.

Methodology
How SimplyCodes verifies codes. Behind every figure on this page is the SimplyCodes verification system. Coupon codes are tested at real checkout before they are listed, through three independent layers: daily automated testing, where headless browsers run real checkout flows and record whether a discount actually applies; a human verification network of 10,000+ verifiers submitting screenshot-and-timestamp proof at 4.6M+ verification actions a month and 98% accuracy; and a real-time fleet signal, where live checkout outcomes from millions of SimplyCodes users feed back into the engine. Each code carries a Health Score from 0–100, weighted by checkout outcomes, verifier consensus, and recency. With an estimated 40–60% of coupon codes on the public web dead, restricted, or fake, the system exists so a code earns its place by working at checkout, not by being collected.
How this study is built. We split every tracked promo code by the scope its own offer terms declare — storewide versus specific items — and compute the share of each group whose current verification status is valid at real checkout. Both groups are measured by the same yardstick: the SimplyCodes verification engine’s live checkout testing.
