Codes expire because they were never meant to last. A promo code is a campaign artifact: it ends when the marketing budget ends, when the season turns, or when the redemption cap is hit — whichever comes first.
The lifespans brands themselves declare make the point. The distribution below measures the days between the moment SimplyCodes first discovered a code and the end date the code declares, and it recomputes daily. For shoppers the rule is simple — a code's freshness matters more than anything printed in it.
Because brands run codes as short campaigns, not standing offers. Among the 2,218,725 tracked codes that carry an end date, 38.8% expire within a week of being discovered and 82.6% within a month — as of August 7, 2026.
- Codes are campaign artifacts: they end when the promotion budget ends, the season turns, or the campaign hits its redemption cap.
- The age curve backs it up — codes first seen this year are several times likelier to still work than codes from two or three years ago.
- For shoppers: a code’s posted date matters more than its wording — fresh beats clever.

Methodology
How SimplyCodes verifies codes. Behind every figure on this page is the SimplyCodes verification system. Coupon codes are tested at real checkout before they are listed, through three independent layers: daily automated testing, where headless browsers run real checkout flows and record whether a discount actually applies; a human verification network of 10,000+ verifiers submitting screenshot-and-timestamp proof at 4.6M+ verification actions a month and 98% accuracy; and a real-time fleet signal, where live checkout outcomes from millions of SimplyCodes users feed back into the engine. Each code carries a Health Score from 0–100, weighted by checkout outcomes, verifier consensus, and recency. With an estimated 40–60% of coupon codes on the public web dead, restricted, or fake, the system exists so a code earns its place by working at checkout, not by being collected.
How this study is built. We take every tracked promo code that declares its own end date and measure the days between when SimplyCodes first discovered it and that end date. The distribution shows how brands actually run codes: as short campaigns. Verification status throughout comes from the SimplyCodes engine’s live checkout testing.
