Free shipping isn't free for the store — it's a cost the sale has to cover. Below a certain cart size the shipping would eat the margin, so stores set a floor: the minimum order that makes the free-shipping math work.
The split below covers every code whose own offer text advertises free shipping, and it recomputes daily. Treat the recorded share as a floor on the true number — many codes enforce a minimum at checkout without declaring it in the offer text. When a free-shipping code refuses a small cart, adding one inexpensive item is often cheaper than paying the shipping.
Because shipping is a real cost the store recovers on small carts. As of August 7, 2026, SimplyCodes tracks 347,195 codes whose offer text advertises free shipping, and 17.8% of them — 61,837 — carry an explicitly recorded minimum-spend floor; many more enforce one at checkout without stating it in the offer.
- The economics are simple: below a certain cart size, free shipping would cost the store more than the sale earns.
- Free-shipping floors follow the same pattern as minimums generally, where $50–100 is the most common bracket.
- If a free-shipping code won’t apply, adding one small item is often cheaper than paying the shipping.
Codes = distinct free-shipping promotions · a recorded minimum is one observed from the code’s real behavior and terms; unrecorded floors can still exist at checkout.

Methodology
How SimplyCodes verifies codes. Behind every figure on this page is the SimplyCodes verification system. Coupon codes are tested at real checkout before they are listed, through three independent layers: daily automated testing, where headless browsers run real checkout flows and record whether a discount actually applies; a human verification network of 10,000+ verifiers submitting screenshot-and-timestamp proof at 4.6M+ verification actions a month and 98% accuracy; and a real-time fleet signal, where live checkout outcomes from millions of SimplyCodes users feed back into the engine. Each code carries a Health Score from 0–100, weighted by checkout outcomes, verifier consensus, and recency. With an estimated 40–60% of coupon codes on the public web dead, restricted, or fake, the system exists so a code earns its place by working at checkout, not by being collected.
How this study is built. We identify free-shipping codes from each code’s own offer text, then count how many carry a recorded minimum-spend condition — observed from the code’s real behavior and terms with evidence references. A code without a recorded minimum can still enforce one at checkout; the recorded share is therefore a floor, not a ceiling. Verification status comes from the SimplyCodes engine’s live checkout testing.
